The ORIGINAL Crooked Mile is a 3-piece musical group specializing in "eclectic Celtic music." Our unique style of vocal and instrumental arrangements follow the Celts through time and influences across Europe, North America, and the seas in between.
We all sing, and we play any (sometime all) of the following instruments: cittern, guitar (usually in the Celtic DADGAD tuning), Irish flute, Uilleann (Irish) bagpipes, fiddle, and mandolin. We can do all instrumental programs for weddings, solemn occasions, or dinners and can cater to the needs of the occasion. We play weddings, birthday parties, dinners, folk festivals, farmers' markets, coffee houses, music halls, dance parties, and we are always booked for St. Patrick's Day by early October.

Members

Crooked Mile's three regular members all hail from North Kitsap County in Washington State.

Bullet David Denz combines many years of traditional music performance with superb arranging abilities to help create the characteristic sound that makes a Crooked Mile concert an outstanding experience.
Bullet Barbara Denz is principal vocalist and publicist for the group. She also tells stories and interesting anecdotes while instruments get tuned.
Bullet Ken Stern adds fiddle, vocal, mandolin, and guitar talents to the group. He has a vast repertoire of Celtic fiddle tunes at his fingertips.

Origins

Crooked Mile started our collaboration over a decade ago and we have evolved into the group that you hear today. We have performed from British Columbia to Oregon with regular appearances at folk festivals, weddings, Saturday markets, open-mic performances, song circles, Highland games, and science-fiction conventions all over the Northwest.

The name "Crooked Mile" comes from the children's song -- since we've all traveled such varied paths to this point, it seemed like a natural choice.
